Comments:

Since the apparent dissolution of Dissection (the singer is in jail, one guitarist is gone and Ole Oman, the drummer, now has a band of his own), the Swedish black metal throne is now vacant and Dawn seems to be one of the bands who could take up the crown, because their latest album, Slaughtersun, is really a killer album. The packaging is beautiful, the band members' pics look professional and the lyrics are written in gold over a deep blue (like a nightsky) background. But the most important ; the music. The music is (very) melodic but fast too (faster than Dissection). Dawn's music is bewitching due to the numerous guitar solos. The band also uses some discreet and well used keyboards (they are like... behind the rest of the instruments... they are never annoying...). The drumming is nearly perfect, pretty aggressive at some moments. And about the vocals, they are high, but not annoying... somewhat like those of Naglfar... Another interesting thing is the length of the songs : all the songs are 8 min long, except one, for a total length of one hour!

However, I don't really like the lyrics : they are about the modern society (especially the first song). On the other songs, the lyrics are more personal. I love those of Ride the Wings of Pestilence, who are about the Black Death that stroke in Europe in 1350 (a.j-c). In overall, the lyrics are less poetic than those of Dissection, but keep in mind that Nodtveidt (the guy behind Dissection) is very hard to top when talking about poetry...

Finally, the production is good (by Tagtgren), if not perfect...

Conclusion : There's nothing else to say. If you want something melodic and majestic black death this is for you.
