Defacer
Nocturnal Mysteries
[Southern Spirits]
Defacer are an underground black metal band from Brazil that I really have no information on. The packaging is clearly dead simple black metal: a few band photos, a rant on the back, and a b/w painting of some mountains as the cover. Defacer are also a very typical band in today's scene. Mid-paced, lots of keyboards, riffs that go nowhere, and awful vocals.
You know the type. Bands that are influenced by the old Greek and maybe even Emperor brand of black metal, but possess neither the technical skills, the flair, or the passion to produce music that stands out of the crowd. This isn't solid metal music at all. Rather, it's flat, uninspired, and dead boring. Even with a solid production I can't see this band going anywhere.
A few tracks, such as "The Journey of the Erudites" make use of some decent Greek style riffs and atmosphere. As a whole though, "Nocturnal Mysteries" is a CD that will be pushed to the back of anyone's collection (or at least thrown out the window).
