The Last Battle
Ougluk-Rougai
[Onirik Circle]
This is a crazy ”goblin war metal” band from France. I doubt that the three
musicians would be familiar from other creations, since their un-developedness
in handling their instruments is clearly to be heard here, mainly giving a
positively free-flowing edge to the material.
It’s raw, metallic and juvenile, with a punkish touch to certain songs. They
perform their stuff with actually played drums (this is actually becoming rare
in this era of boring one-man projects of boring kids with boring drum
machines!) and the usual metal strings, without synths, with shouted, screamed
and semi-”clean” chanted vocals.
To me, this was a really inspiring and fresh demo. There are some epic ”rally”
tunes with quite melodic (but always raw and pure) riffs repeated with
effectiveness, also involving repetitive minimalism in the darker pieces, with
the method that Ildjarn and Absurd perfected and mastered, not to forget Burzum.
There are also many intentionally funny moments of three vocalists screeching
and screaming in a goblin way, in a frenzied battle fury or whatever moment of
excitation it may be.
This is for those who will never grow up!
