'A Blaze in the Northern Sky' is the second album by Darkthrone, but it's their first real black metal album. "A Blaze in the Northern Sky" is more aggressive then its followers, more ground breaking, but as cold and hateful at the same time. And the compositions are a bit more complex, and more different each others. There are even some melodic moments, but they are pretty short!
The vocals are more shouted, a bit less hoarse... they are not bad, but they are much better on the others albums. Well, to keep it short : this is a Darkthrone album damnit : raw, evil sounding, Black metal as it should be!
Good Points:
- Aggressive
- More diversity between the songs
- Longer songs
Bad Points:
- If you can't stand bad productions, you'll hate it.
- At some moment on "In the Shadow of the Horns" the signer say 'Come On', and later 'Unholy Black metal'... with a clean, gay voice >:]
