A Bay-area based retro side project of some members of Exhumed. Produced
by James Murphy, the album also features guest backing vocals from members
of Dawn, Impaled, Cranium, and Exhumed.
There, now that the credits are out of the way, THIS ALBUM RIPS!!!! You can completely ignore the previous paragraph, because you don't need justifications like that with music as monstrous as this - we're talking some serious bay-area-style crazy thrash/death in the classic vein of Exodus or Possessed. In fact, the vocals sound almost exactly like Jeff circa Seven Churches, and the song/riff style (and ESPECIALLY the solos) have that 'thrashy-with-a-bit-of-classical-type-influence' thing like early Exodus did (also those 'chanting choruses' that Exodus made so popular are here too). The band just carries the whole thrash thing totally over the top, from the riffs and songs (11 tracks, 33 minutes - can you say 'frantic'?) down to the song titles (lovely titles like "Hell's Metal", "Possessed with Damnation", "Total Fucking Slaughter"...), the band members (names like Andy Maniac and Matt Hellfiend), and photos (complete with more leather, spikes, devil horns, middle fingers, and contorted faces than a Venom tribute band convention would have...). It's nice to see a band get the retro thing right (note to retro-wanna-be's: don't wade into it - fucking jump all the way! Half-assed won't cut it!). Well, Dekapitator go all-the-way-over in going OTT, making this one highly recommended to retro fans and really anyone else who just loves metal.
