Sorhin
I Det Glimrande Mörkrets Djup
[Near Dark]
Debut album from the three piece Swedish band Sorhin. This outfit has been
around since 1993, the same year they released their demo "Svarta själars
vandring". Until this release they have put out one promo, one mCD and one
picture EP. The music of Sorhin has always been fast, raw and unholy black
metal with Swedish lyrics.
When I noticed that this had been released I was quite excited as I quite
like their previous material. Like the mCD, this was recorded in The Abyss,
something that is quite obvious when listening to it. The songs are really
good, drumming and guitar work are excellent. The vocals suit the music
perfectly, a bit deeper and sound more spoken than the earlier furious
Burzum'esque howling. The production on the other hand, I do not like at
all. It kills alot of the feeling I believe this album would have had if it
had a rawer and harsher production with a sharper guitar sound. Very
irritating indeed.
Some people will disagree with me on this point. I will admit that when it
comes to black metal, I'm usually turned off by a production that sounds
like it has actually been done in a proper studio. But if you're into fast,
evil sounding black metal and at the same time not being too fond of rough
productions this is probably something for you. Even though I dislike the
production on this one, songs like "Sänd mig en ängel att dräpa" and the
title track are quite enjoyable. Also, I would like to point out that
Nattfurst's lyrics are quite supreme.
