Thy Serpent
Christcrusher
[Spinefarm]
The imagery, lyrical content and music on this album fall under the black
metal category. Apparently, the band wanted to distinguish themselves from
the black metal crowd and self-described their music as "Dark Anti-Christian
Metal." That's an accurate description as well, but it doesn't make that
much difference.
Mid-paced songs with tasteful keyboards that help to build good atmosphere
and melodies are the order of the day here. Title track is the only fast
song, and it prevents the album from getting stale. The problem that I see
with it is that it is too luscious, polished and suave sounding. Fans of
raw, brutal black metal should stay away from it. Conversely, if you prefer
more accessible forms of dark/black metal, then this will be right up your
alley.
