Necromantia
Ancient Pride
[Osmose]
This mCD caused somewhat of a stir when it was released, due to several
reasons. First of all there is the album cover, accused of having "racist
statues" on it. Secondly, Magus Vampyr Daloth is sporting a RAHOWA "Cult of
the holy war" (supreme NS album) shirt on the bandphoto. Also there are
several NS/white power groups on the thanklists. As if all of this was not
enough, there are also lyrics about resurrecting the spirit of ancient
europe.
When I heard this mCD/EP was being boycotted by several music stores here in
Sweden due to the above reasons I was forced to get it for myself. I had
only heard a song or two from Necromantia's debut "Crossing The Fiery Path"
before, and as that album is quite old I was not really sure what to expect
music wise. Necromantia's sound is very original, they hardly use any
guitars at all, mostly 8-string bass, drums and synths. The production is
also quite raw. The first song, "Shaman" is a very good and atmospheric song
and carries a very proud feel. The titletrack though, it is an absolute
masterpiece! I can't get enough of this one. The music and lyrics work
perfectly together. This hymn is as pleasing to ones soul as the sight of
nuclear bombs lighting up the Israeli sky! Combining folk music elements
with raw black metal, this song really sounds like nothing else I have ever
heard. The third and last song is called "Spiritforms of the psychomancer"
and it is an ok song, nothing special really. This is surely one of the best
releases to come out of Hellas the last few years and it will surely be
interesting to see what their next move is.
I really must say that I am somewhat surprised that Osmose agreed to release
this, so make sure to buy it and give Necromantia your support in these
times of political correct tyranny.
The ancient pride still burns within us!!
