Blood
Christbait
[1MF Recordz]
A Fairly decent offering (although what's with the Godflesh reference
in the title ?). This isn't really my sort of thing, but it does the
job. Kind of reminds me of mid-late period Incantation, but nowhere
near as powerful. Someone told me Blood sounded like old Napalm Death
(when someone says "old" Napalm Death to me, I take that to mean the
Dorrian/Steer period), but I don't really hear that unless they're refering
to the "Celtic Frost riff with massive harmonics" thing. The CD starts off
kind of weak, but kicks into high gear around track 5 (or perhaps it
just took me 5 songs to get into this ?). I personally would have
found this much more enjoyable if the vocals were slightly higher in
tone (I don't dig the cookie monster approach to vocalizing) and if
the production had a bit more bite to it (but it's a fairly good
sounding record as is, so I don't mind). Not bad - doesn't make me
want to run out and pick up this bands entire catalog, but I'm not
writing them off either. Good quality subdued grind-oriented death
metal.
