Black Widow
Sacrifice
[Epic/Sony]
I'm reviewing this CD as a "black metal public service announcement" so
to speak, as some might be tempted to pick this up based on the fact
that it was mentioned in Michael Moynihan and Didrik Soderlind's
"Lords of Chaos", as well as having a track that was covered by
Bewitched on their "Encyclopedia of Evil" mCD. Well, save your $$$
folks, as I seriously doubt 99.999% of you would find anything of value
in this whatsoever. I came to acquire this CD from Malphas, who didn't
want this tainting his excellent CD collection. So what makes it so
bad ? Well, it's not really (Malphas would vehemently disagree), but
I just can't see anyone grabbing this and going "WOW! What a lost gem
this is!". Black Widow are basically a satanic/occult version of
Jethro Tull plus some keyboards - if you can imagine "Aqualung" with
lyrics about witches, demons, hell and other such things, then you've
pretty much got the idea and can see why this would be of zero interest to
the majority of you out there. I find it somewhat interesting for
it's novelty/cheese value, but musically, it's a total wash out (it
also has that rank that most albums from 1970 have, which is when this
was recorded and released). On top of that, this is only available as
a Japanese import as far as I know, so I'd really hate to see anyone
blow that much money on anything this bad. Avoid at all costs, unless
you're a die hard wanky prog-rock (minus the musicianship) enthusiast...
