Voivod
Dimension Hatross
[Noise]
I remember when 'Killing Technology' came out and first listening to it, I
immediately pronounced Voivod dead. I thought they were headed down the
path of lameness but after a few listens, it grew on me. Voivod were always
expanding their sound and creating a different brand of metal. I saw them
later that year with Sacrifice opening and they still kicked ass. So my
coroners' report was a bit premature, at least so I thought. When
'Dimension Hatross' came out, I lost it. Voivod went too far for me with
their experimentation and venturing into a concept album. I didn't get it.
One must remember that I was quite young and the only things that mattered
to me were Satan, metal, chicks, alcohol and kicking a man's ass (actually
those things are still the best things in life!). Year's later at the
urging of a close friend, I went back and gave it another listen. Man!!!
What a fool I was!!! 'Dimension Hatross' is a masterpiece. A spacey thrash
classic with great musicianship and such total energy to make it's concept
work. A very difficult thing to do is to get a vibe that manages to hold
the tale of the concept album together and Voivod pass the test with flying
colours. Some great songs present in 'Tribal Convictions', 'Technocratic
Manipulators' and 'Brainscan'. Awesome stuff, go back and give it another
spin if you were like me. Highly recommended.
