Deceased
The 13 Frightened Souls
[Relapse]
Deceased is one of the coolest death metal bands that inhabits America.
This is one of the coolest EPs Relapse has ever released because all the
songs on it
are awesome. Where 'Luck of the Corpse' had that raw early '90s death metal
innocence,
'The 13 Frightened Souls' shows a great maturation. Or maybe it's the
production.
Even the band admits the production on 'Luck. . .' bit. I kind of like it,
but
the sound on this EP is one of the best the band has ever gotten.
Starting out with the title track, King bashes the drums mercilessly,
blasting,
grinding, grooving all the way through almost twenty minutes of infectious
death metal
done the Deceased way. Even though all five songs are well-performed and
justly
killer, the shining moments on this album are the speedy crowd favorite
"Robotic Village",
the monstrous cover of Voivod's "Voivod" and the mucho memorable, stomping
"Planet Graveyard"
(with one hell of a chorus). Even Deceased's solos are cool.
Deceased is for, as King would say, the "true death metal legions". No one
else need bother!
