Slayer
Diabolus In Musica
[American]
There are two kinds of Slayer fans in the world : those who got into
Slayer before "Reign In Blood", and those who got into Slayer after
"Reign In Blood". If you're of the second group, then go away as
you'll pretty much buy anything that has the Slayer name on it, and
this review will do nothing but get your pink little panties all in a
bunch. The rest of you, read on...
This album sucks. It's really that simple. Slayer have been raping
the corpse of their once great past for over a decade now, and this
album is just more proverbial semen in the anus of a dead horse.
The CD runs just about 40 minutes long, and out of that, a grand total
of about 5 minutes of it didn't suck. The production is even fucking
horrible to boot - slick as fuck, and Tom's voice is processed to the
point where even Trent Reznor would cringe...and what the FUCK is
with the vocal phrasing on this?!?! I swear, remove the guitars on
most of these songs and the end result would be Tom gangsta rapping
over mediocre beats. This just completely and utterly BLOWS...
I admit, I gave up on Slayer after "Reign in Blood". Both "South of
Heaven" and "Seasons In The Abyss" had their moments, but neither stood
up to the 3rd full length (the absolute epoch of Slayer). Some of you
might say I shouldn't even be reviewing this album because of that
fact, and to that I'll reply with this : You don't need to be a world
class chef to spot Kraft Dinner and Spam luncheon meat, and you don't
need to be a brain surgeon to tell that "Diabolus In Musica" is the
musical equivalent to the two above mentioned dishes...
