Sirius is along with Bal-Sagoth part of the elite who can use song titles like
"Fiery Strife at the Cosmic Gate of Armageddon" and write compositions to match.
This demo is included in the tape on two different versions, one with vocals,
one without. The version without vocals is more soundtrack and probably provides
opportunities to study the songs from a different direction, but I prefer the
one with the screams. Great vocals, those!
The first song, whose name I already mentioned, starts with a very pompous,
maximalistic pseudo-classical keyboard intro. Then high-speed drums blast in,
along with distorted guitars and high-pitched vocal screeches which contain
nuclear levels of destructive power when coupled with the musically advanced
compositions. A more powerful production would suit their music… hell, this
should be played at volume levels to burn and destroy houses to the ground!
This is what Limbonic Art or Emperor would have been, had they stayed
innovative, destructive and moving with their art, instead of succumbing to old
patterns that I find uninteresting. The *descending* riff in the chorus of the
second song, "Out of the Serpent Line", with the ‘summoner of the astral forges’
screaming "…into the everlasting Fire" is devastating.
The third and fourth songs rely more heavily on the keyboardist Vukodlack’s
ability to compose symphonic music and orchestrate them with synths. They do not
disappoint, but rather circle around the presences established by the first two
tracks… not expanding, only descending deeper, into more thoughtful, slower and
meditative patterns.
