Frozen Shadows
Empires de Glace
[Demo '97]
I was rather disappointed with this band's attitude after reading
various interviews with them, but come to think of it, most people in
the black metal scene are confused idiots. I eventually sent some cash
away for the demo, and after a few listens, will admit that I enjoy
parts of it.
The intro and final track are rather excellent actually, especially for
a demo release. As for everything else….well it's been done before, and
in a much better fashion. Drumming is quality, and just beneath the true
gods of Canadian battery, vocals (he was the vocalist for Tenebrae on
their demo) are rather nice, especially on the final track, and the
small amount of keyboard work is rather tasteful.
Basically, if this band were from Norway, they would probably have a
licensing deal by now. For the most part, this is an enjoyable slab of
unoriginal Emperor style black metal, but the true gods of the Canadian
black metal scene, specifically Conqueror, Sacramentary Abolishment, and
so on, still outdo this lot in each and every department.
