Tsjuder
Kill For Satan
[Drakkar]
This CD fucking slays and is the one of the best things to come out of Norway this side of 1995. Thats it, I wish I could leave the review at that, however, I'll elaborate. This is the official debut release of Tsjuder from Norway. The band has existed since 1993, and since then has put out two demos (? and Possessed), an EP (Throne Of The Goat) and a promo (Atum Nocturnem). Musically, Tsjuder sound vaguely like old Gorgoroth, with lower pitched vocals. What do you expect? With a name like Kill For Satan you won't get any Dimmu Borgay/Nuclear Ass "Black Metal".
Vox:
Nag blurts out a rasp/screech which throws itself into distortion. The vox are reminescent of Hat from the first Gorgoroth album, just not as high pitched, however in no way are they a rip off. They work perfectly against the 'chainsaw' that Tsjuder play.
Guitars:
The riffs played on Kill For Satan are especially interesting. They're not anything really new or groundbreaking, and consist of simple power chord patterns, but the way they are thrown together is awesome, and make for some powerful songs. The guitars are played with an awesome buzzsaw tone.
Bass:
The bass is very well audible in the mix, however nothing special really. Most of the time, the bass is just doubling the guitars, but then again, brutality comes through simplicity.
Drums:
The drums on Kill For Satan are quite good. They're not really as technical as Hellhammer, Trym Torson or Frost (geez, weird, fag bands have good drummers.....), but he does the job with interesting drum lines and some great fills (like the beginning of 'Raping Christianity'). He also has a good double bass technique. The drummer can be compared to Fenriz of Darkthrone (godz!) or Goat of Gorgoroth.
Overall:
A great albums, with all components mixing to together to form a brutal slab of 'chainsaw' black metal. the song titles are great ('raping christianity', 'sodomize the lamb'). The quote from the day is of course, from raping christianity: "I will rape you out of this world!"
