Diaboli
Towards Damnation
[Full Moon]
The only other release that I own from Diaboli is their second demo (under
Sigullum Diaboli). It really wasn't that impressive, although it was a solid
slab of modern style black metal. This isn't too far off from the demo
actually, besides some minor style change and improved production.
The first thing that came to me while listening to this was that it reminded
me of the first Burzum LP. Combine that with some Darkthrone and you have
yourself "Towards Damnation". Very far from being the most ground breaking of
albums, but it's still quite decent. And listen to some of the riffs!
They'll really remind of you of those two bands since they are just a little
too similar. Naturally, they aren't anywhere near as good.
Straight forward is the key here. And that prevents anything from becoming
too enticing. Raspy vocals, fast with loads of double bass and some fairly
unoriginal riffing. It's not much of a challenge/adventure writing a review
in respect to the CD either.
Is this album worth picking up? I suppose so. I'll probably try to pick up
their first CD that was released on Unisound some time ago. But it's really
not as impressive as some people have been making out. If you have some
extra cash, I would have to say.
