Bethlehem
Sardonischer Untergang im Zeichen irreligi”ser Darbietung
[Red Stream]
Bethlehem have managed to release three very impressive releases over the
course of the last few years. "SUIZID", their fourth, is really do different.
It's dark, confusing, sickening, and at times deeply depressing. The
packaging is detailed and fitting, production is excellent, and the music
manages to live up to it's reputation.
I won't say that this is better than the amazing "Dictiue te Necare". It's
just missing something that made that release so very incredible. Obviously
it wasn't something a person would get into immediately, it actually took me
a great deal of time, and this is really no different. I WILL say that this
is an excellent CD though.
As I just mentioned, this CD takes a good deal of patience and time to truly
appreciate. I prefer albums like this, since straight-forward and instantly
pleasing releases generally become quite boring after a listen or two. On
the other hands, CDs like this can take months (years!) to truly uncover
each and ever interesting little bit. Combining this with the quality of the
packaging and obvious effort put into the CD, it's very much worthy of being
purchased.
But Bethlehem haven't really changed their style too much. They've taken
what was used on their previous albums, added a few little fillers here and
there, and come out with an excellent body of work. This is still elite
Suicide metal! Sick vocals, bizarre mid paced riffs, almost always moving
into a simple and bleak distortion free section. The riffs and darker
sections really get to you, especially when the days become increasingly
more and more annoying. This is very far from being a light and cute Cradle
of Filth album, and I obviously appreciate that. Listen to the dark riffing
in the opening track, the melancholic solo and following riffing in "Gestern
starv ich schon heute".
Obviously I suggest picking this album up. It may be a little to bizarre for
some to handle, but everyone else will really appreciate it. An interesting
band obviously, and for the most part quite refreshing. I look forward to
the new mCD. I guess my only complaint would be that I miss the full out
effect of Lander on the Dictius' album's vocals., and perhaps some of the
more standout tracks displayed there.
