Incantation
Diabolical Conquest
[Relapse]

The comedic thing about this album is that the vocalist/bass player was recently deported to Mexico. John's the only original member left as well. This could cause problems! Luckily, I saw Incantation live a little bit after this, and they had happily picked up a much fitting frontman, although I didn't quite recognize him (the bass player was from Morpheus Descends though). The live show was great, they played an excellent set (although they avoided playing "Golgotha"), and proved that they are still one of the best death metal bands around. They seem to be treated like dogs on the tour though, while rock start Morbid Angel get a good part of the credit, comfort, and whatnot. I prefer Incantation.

"Diabolical Conquest" is really no different in terms of respect. The album is incredibly well thought out, and each song stands out in flawless, Incantation style. I'll happily admit that this album is just behind the fantastic "Onward to Golgotha", and the new vocalist is a suitable replacement for Craig. Riffs are recognizable yet still quite interesting, drumming is produced in a raw and violent fashion, and the sound is all together excellent.

Obvious standout tracks such as the title track and "Shadows of the Ancient Empire" (from the mCD) exist, yet upon deeper inspection, such excellent tracks as "Desecration (of the Heavenly Graceful)" and the lengthy final track stand out as well. I really can't praise this album enough, and I hope more bands follow in their footsteps. It's time for the metal dynastic cycle to kick in yet again, and for death metal to piss all over the fallen and stale black metal scene. Long live the powerful Incantation!!!!
