Stille Volk
Hantaoma
[Holy]
This is the full length CD from the French trio. Not metal at all, but
rather interesting traditional folk music. NO, not the "I'm a whiny
lesbian sitting on a stool with my acoustic guitar making everyone
around me sick-coffee shop-kill all of us" folk music, but rather
medieval and wonderful FOLK music. Flutes, mouth harps, bizarre hand
held instruments….nothing you'd see at a Manowar concert at least.
To tell you the truth, I preferred the demo over this. They've tried to
sound a little too strange at points here, and thus killed the
magnificent feeling they give birth to on the demo. Another problem is
that they simply sound too happy at times. I know this is very far from
evil metal, but still!! Another problem I've found is that the vocalist
don't push themselves enough. On the demo they created some lovely
melodies by REALLY pushing their vocals. You could hear them coming
close to falling apart!! This is still good though, and much better than
some stuff metal-only people would have heard before, such as Ulver's
second album. Still not good enough considering the potential they
showed on the demo though.
