Typhon
Unholy Trilogy
[Warmaster]
This will be way too extreme for most kids in the scene today. There are no
keyboards, not pleasing melodies, and no clean vocals. In fact, it's some
of the grimmest Black Metal around. Now, I am not a fan of this "Retro"
metal shit going around, but Typhon is one band who does it really well.
The reason? Because they are OLD ENOUGH to be doing it...Bull Metal is
about 33 years old or so, so he's not just jumping onto the latest trend.
Anyway, the music on here could be described as grim Black Metal mixed with
Venom & Sodom. But the real highlight of this release are the vocals. This
guy simply sounds fucking DEAD. The vocals are totally lifeless &
zombie-like...sure to disgust most people who hear them. But then you know
they HAVE to be good if they are hated by 90% of the scene. The vocals on
this release were actually quite an inspiration for my by band, Centuries of
Deception (those of you who have heard it will know what I mean). Perhaps
the most interesting song on this album is their cover of Mayhem's Life
Eternal. Now, it's not just a "cover". Dead actually gave Bull Metal the
lyrics to this song as a gift before he blew his head off (but Mayhem used
it on "De Mysteriis..." anyway). And Typhon decided to take the original
music & create a totally new version of this song. It's really very
interesting, because the notes are the same, but the music, arrangements, &
tempo are completely different. This is my favorite song on here, not
because it's a Mayhem song, but because it's simply the best one here.
Anyway, for those who want some sick fucking Black Metal, be sure to check
this album out.
