Nokturnal Mortum
Nechrist
[The End/Last Episode]

One could question Nokturnal Mortum’s overnight change into ‘Aryan N.S. Black Metal’. Or the simple fact that a bunch of Ukrainians have in one way or another devoted a disc to Hitler (re: 88 tracks). OR the even more hilarious notion that an 'Aryan N.S. Black Metal' band is distrubuted by Last Episode. That’s up to you though…

I noticed immediately that the production was not only ten times as large as before, but that the speed factor had jumped up a few MPH. The annoying emphasis on keyboards has also disappeared, replaced with blasting drums and some very decent riffs. The Dimmu Borgir-ish boredom factor of drenching everything in keyboards has also been exchanged for folk music breaks underneath and in-between the blasting. This is very interesting, as it’s not just folk influenced metal, but there’s ACTUAL Slavic folk music (re: 'The Funeral Wind Born in Oriana', 'The Call of Aryan Spirit') going on in most of the tracks.

Songs like ‘Night before the fight’ are still as fast and brutal, with epic keyboards all over the place, but they’re more guitar heavy and ‘death punk ‘n’ roll’. Maybe some ideas from the Aryan Terrorism side-project have come to light here.

I suppose the one most positive thing about this release is that it will scare the crap out of the metal liberals. They’ve had an easy time over the year criticizing bands like Absurd, Holocaust (Pol), etc., which, well, aesthetically suck. Nokturnal Mortum, on the other hand, are amongst the most technical and skilled musicians to present the world with Black Metal, let alone 'NSBM'.
