The first album from UK's Napalm Death was mostly brutal hardcore, as it was back then. The ugly vocal sound/feeling captured here served as an inspiration for later gorefreaks. The simple uneventfulness that characterizes the whole record is not to be taken for granted - this is not a boring album. The feeling of anti-social rejection, criticism of capitalism and the degeneration of natural morals are going on in extreme metal all the time and with 'Scum', N.D. give some of it right in your face.
