Covenant
Nexus Polaris
[Nuclear Blast]
If you know Covenant's 1st album, you will be a bit frightened by this
album (if didn't read any reviews or listen to any samples before listening
to it.) This new album is very heavy metal oriented, but usually faster than
a normal heavy metal band, and with very well structured riffs, played by 2
guitarists (Blackheart - who was the "A. Blackheart" on the 1st Covenant, and
Astennu - no idea where this guy came from), fucking killer drums played by
the equally killer Hellhammer (Mayhem, Arcturus), some female vocals, very
well sung by Sarah Jezebel (CoF) (Note: here she sings very well, in CoF she
only speaks)...there is Nagash (Dimmu Borgir, Troll) on bass and vocals (that
are very varied, not being only black metal like, but it's nothing cute
either). To complete everything this, we have the magnificent Sverd
(Arcturus - he also played some stuff in Ulver) on synths, and he is a
master at what he makes, adding classical melodies to the heavy metal riffs
and the extremely fast battery, giving the songs a magic touch. The lyrics
are about cosmic stuff, planets and the outer space (I still haven't read
them).
Get this album if you are open minded and if you'd like some very well done
heavy-black metal music. If not, don't waste your money. This is NOT a raw
black metal album at all.
