Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Braveheart
[London]
Now what's this git up to?? Since when is the soundtrack from Braveheart classified as "metal"??? These of course may be some of the question's your most likely asking yourselves if reading this review. Well, you've most likely noticed how I've added a few folk/ambient reviews throughout the site, so I decided this deserved a place here as well. Again, why you ask?? Simply because for the 77 minutes that it lasts, this collection of music from the movie (performed by the London Symphony Orchestra!!) is magnificent. For fans of the flick (such as myself) as well as of ambient/symphonic/CMI school/folk music, this disc is your dream come true, simply because it brings back memories of the excellent movie while at the same time surpassing just about any folk/orchestral/or even ambient release out there. Ranging from horribly depressive (such as track 3 "Wallace Courts Murron"), traditional war sounding (such as track 9 "Sons of Scotland") or just simply creepy (track 6 "Revenge" does that nicely) the entire soundtrack is beyond just impressive. What more can be said? This release covers all ranges of emotional need, is better than anything found on CMI or related labels, mixes in some excellent traditional folk music, and sounds epic in *such* a grand way. Recommended for fans of everything from Bal Sagoth to the Chieftains, and everything in between :)
