Tha-Norr
Wolfenzeitalter
[Nazgul's Eyrie]
Fairly straight forward raw black metal would be the key description for this release. For those of us who were lucky enough to check out the "Infinite Visions of Hell" compilation about 2 years back, you'll most likely remember Tha-Norr's track "Tyrant of a new Aeon", which is a bonus track here, and probably the best of the lot. Hailing from Germany, and unlike many other raw bands, this two-piece utilizes some interesting instruments/sections/experimentations to spice their music up a bit. Ranging from bluesy guitar solos to pianos, to clean, almost baroque male vocals (and a flute of sorts I suppose), the additions save the music from becoming overly boring, simply because T.N aren't the best at creating raw-black metal. To tell you the truth though, the music on here has a well-done "drab" sort of feel to it, which makes it quite evil/dark sounding. The only negative aspect I suppose would be the vocals (and the horrible .midi sounding techno track "Fegefeuer"...ugh), that at times become too boring to listen to without finding other stimulants to perk your curiosity (just a typical screeching rasp). Besides the past mentionings, the rest of the tunes are simple fast to mid-paced raw black metal songs, peppered with black metal vocals. Nothing amazing, nothing worth hunting down if you can't find it, but at least it's somewhat original and somewhat solid sounding. Oh, and one question...what is Sklenarz doing in his photo?? It looks like he's jumping out of a tree and attempting to belly-flop the ground....strange :\
