[Nuclear Blast]
While returning from the local bar one evening, I was assaulted by one of the local metal heads (where I lived at one time in my life) who had just returned from Germany. He handed me a signed copy of this disc, and (in Italian) said "This is fucking amazing, you really have to listen to it, it's like a combination of newer My Dying Bride and Satyricon". Not being a fan of either of these bands last few releases, I was somewhat sceptical, especially since the packaging looked like one of those horrible gothic releases that you see git's in Marilyn Manson shirts and white face powder abusing. To my surprise though, after listening to the disc for a few hours, I actually learned to very well love it. The band is overflowing with talent, and the fantastic emotions that they convey on this disc surpass just being "sorrowful" of "beautiful". They truly attempt to please just about every crowd out there as well, since the tracks on this release range from newer My Dying Bride style doom, older style death/doom and even black metal.
The first few tracks are slow to mid-paced doom metal, filled with surprisingly melodic yet sombre sounding riffs, original sounding keyboard sections, and a better trained version of Aaron of My Dying Brides vocals. Both of these tracks are the superior ones on the disc if you were to ask me, mainly because they just sound so perfect and flow at such excellent rates that they can't be considered anything less than that. From there the disc moves into more experimental sections, and utilizes death vocals, black metal vocals, and continues with some really great riffs (really great!!!). I really suggest people out there check this out. It's not over the top or anything, and not overly experimental (as a matter of fact it's very easy to listen to), but it's just so well done that it deserves to be checked out. Lyrics are in German and English, and the packaging is done in an excellent way. A mass surprise of a disc that's turned into a constant play in my stereo for a good six months now.
