Sacrifice
Torment in Fire
[Diabolic Force/Fringe]

The sheer brutality and extremity of this album sadly forced the various follow-up releases from this group (such as 'Soldiers of Misfortune' and 'Apocalypse Inside') to seem rather weak and tired. Not simply because they were incapable of achieving the power displayed here, but because they seemed to lose momentum as the albums progressed. 'Torment in Fire' stays downright vicious for it's entire playing time though, and because of this, deserves to be heard by all fans of violent thrash and even old-school death metal.

Sacrifice became popular in their time, but at the same rate were dubbed as your basic Slayer clone. Slayer on one hand were bombastic and over the top (but of course an incredible band), while Sacrifice seemed to be a bit more down to earth. Rather than using huge solos and whatnot to create a violent feel, they concentrated more on speed, technical riffs, and the absolutely disgusting and over the top vocals to create their sound. Sure, everything here reeks of early Slayer, but that's not a bad thing now, is it?

'Torment in Fire' is a fantastic album full of energy and vicious riffing. The vocals are raspy and brutal, and indeed make the album what it is. From a technical standpoint Sacrifice are truly proficient, but it's the music they make which impresses me so. 'Torment in Fire' fucking rules!
