Paganus Doctrina /
Pseudostratiffied Epithelium
Split CD
[American Line]

Now thNow this is fairly interesting, if not *very* obscure. Two bands from Costa Rica (???), one playing well done black metal, and the other playing some grindcore. I'm sure you've also noticed the lengthy names. While PD don't have too bad a one, what were PE thinking of when coming up with that one?? Do they really think that name will ever work amongst tape traders or word of mouth??? Anyways...let's have another look at the bands on individual levels:

PAGANUS DOCTRINA: These 5 bastards play a very much above average style of fast and cranky black metal. They only have one 24 minute song on the split (both of these bands obviously have cocaine problems), but it still is decent and varied enough to sound like more than one song (it is broken up into sections). Sort of like Vondour (yes, that Vondour) in weaker sections, and more grinding and atmospheric in the slower ones, this band obviously has some talent, and deserve some credit for creating a nice mixture between super fast, and more synth based black metal

PSEUDOSTRATIFFIED EPITHELIUM: I have never in my life seen a band name longer nor more annoying looking than that one. Anyways, this horde full of Costa Rican's (again..Costa Rica???) play some very fast, typically insane, and for the most part well done grindcore. Vocals are in the classic Carcass fashion, and go up and down the scale, ranging from deep grunts to mindless screeches, and that of course is very good. Musically, the band plays some nice riff sections, but also occasionally go into some deeper sounding atmospheric ones. The music is of course mostly fast though.

Not a bad split CD. Although a tad bit strange, both bands are good at what they do, and deserve a minor amount of respect for creating some solid Costa Rican (??) metal. Packaging is extremely well done, very, very, professional looking, and has most likely put the label into mass debt.
