Barathrum
Legions of Perkele
[Spinefarm]
I was sort of shocked to see this lot sign to Spinefarm. I assume it's a
very fitting label for them though, since they give excellent support
and are of course local. Most importantly, they probably gave the band
the one thing that has plagued them for such a long time: adequate funds
to record.
Being such a bass heavy band, these Finnish demon obviously need
sufficient recording facilities, and someone to handle them. With
Legions of Perkele, we get just that. What a flawless fucking album!
Barathrum have always been a great band, and this release is really no
different.
If you're in the mood of DARK and EVIL doomy black metal, then "Legions"
will be your huge fucking cup of tea. This album is so incredibly heavy
and powerful. You'll be banging your head for hours listening to this
fantastic release.
Demonos' vocals are just so incredibly sick and raw here. They drip with
an wonderful raspy and venomous feel, which adds perfectly to the
twisted and Satanic music. And just like the music, they have a feel of
their own. Barathrum are a unique and legendary band, and deserve a good
deal more respect then they've received over the years.
As one of the last remaining bands from the Satanic metal period, you
can't help but be proud of these lads. Watching other great members of
the Finnish scene such as Beherit and Black Crucifixion either disappear
or turn into incredibly bad bands (Beherit disappearing, Black
Crucifixion becoming Promethean) was obviously disappointing. Luckily,
unlike many other countries, we always have this band to turn to in
search of Finnish black metal.
This is a must have! All fans of old school black metal, heavy black
metal, and in some cases, traditional Greek style black will end up
worshipping this. On the other hand, this release is just so appealing
that a good chunk of extreme metal fans will find something fantastic in
it. Tasteful packaging, fantastic production, Barathrum style lyrics,
and some of the darkest and most evil black metal around! BURN
