Veles
Night on the Bare Mountain
[No Colours]
As a few of you know, I'm quite the lover of Polish black metal. Names such as Graveland, Profanum,
Behemoth, Mastiphal, North....all groups that I worship. So when it comes to reviews under the Polish BM banner, remember
that this countries form of metal is at times non-standard, and thus will not appease the average C.O.F (moronic) fan, perhaps one reason why I enjoy it so. Veles is another
member of the Nazi circle of black metal bands that are all over Poland, as evident by a few of the white-power lyrics and "88" that adorns the CD cover. Main man Blasphemous is also
not your typical black-metal creature, he is in fact a physically obvious skinhead. Oh yes, the music....This is very reminiscent of Graveland for all Darken fans out there (Rob Darken also does the keys on this
disc), as a matter of fact it could be easily mistaken for a Graveland CD. Besides a few extra "atmospheric" clean guitar parts, riffs, (weak) drumming, vocals (Very much like Graveland), and keyboards all fit together to make that raw Graveland sound that we all (well not all) know and love.
For those of you who don't understand Polish (Graveland/Infernum/etc. that is) black metal, you have to understand that it's minimal to an extreme sense, no fancy Cradle of Filth/Arcturus/Satyricon-ish rock star riffing's or sounds, just straight-forward, raw, ripping, and hate-filled
tunes is what are generally produced by these groups (with the exceptions of Mastiphal and newer Behemoth obviously). So if you are a fan of such silly groups as Cradle of Filth this is definitely not the breeding ground for your futures CD's. Besides those (very) basic comments,
I really can't say much more about this release....36 or so minutes long (with an intro and outro), decent production...very Graveland-ish. So if your a fan of rawer Darkthrone/early-Behemoth/Graveland style black metal, I suggest you check this disc out, it won't disappoint.
