Baltak
Zaginatiot Grad
[BATTLEGOD]
This disc pisses on so much it's not even funny. The first CD did
nothing more than give me a good headache (a fine album to drink by
though!!!!!), but this is just so much more better, while basically
staying the same. Brutal ripping war metal is obviously what Baltak
plays, and they do quite the nice job…
The opening track 'Dead' is probably the highlight. Quite literally, I
think there's only one riff in this song. Quite repetitive, but it just
works out so very nicely. Gorgoroth's vocals are as harsh and sick as
ever (Burzum-ish I guess..but tighter)….he also uses the occasional
deeper sounding vocal this time around.
Yes, the music is quite repetitive. I like it though. It's almost like a
mid-period Darkthrone album with huge production played at 35 times the
speed. Sounds like your cup of tea? Well this will obviously find a
place in your CD player then.
The packaging is like an anti-Greek history lesson. Detailed (yet
personal of course) essays, tons of photos…yes, some effort went into
this. For anyone who's taken a classics course in their life, or has a
passion for that very field, you'll enjoy this. It's like reading a
paper from a disgruntled ultra-nationalistic Macedonian. Better than
reading pathetic excuses for lyrics, or having to stare at band photo
after band photo of incredibly ugly sodomites! A great idea for sure!
The one thing that makes this album great, above the first album, and
worth purchasing (besides the great packaging), is that it has a certain
"something". No, I don't know what this is, but there's some detail put
into the music. Sure it's simple, sloppy, and raw…..but it's an
incredibly powerful and all out incredible album. I highly suggest
picking this up.
