Abigor
Apokalypse
[Napalm]

Yikes! Abigor have gone even further into the realm of brutality with this release, and are most successful. Unlike Opus IV (which was also quite violent) this disc contains no synth, acoustics, or even the trademark rasped vocals. All that we find here is blast beat after blast beat, more "yelled" vocals, and some fucking great riffs. I'm impressed by how Abigor enable themselves to constantly churn out disc after disc like clockwork, yet still remain somewhat original and decent enough to listen to. Apokalypse is by far one of the finer "speed-filled-raw-violent-etc." CDs I've heard in a while...these guy's successfully employ brutality and melody and come up with a fine product. Let's look at the tracks one by one:

-"Celestial"-This one starts out in a fashion similar to the first track on "Opus IV", a fast, blasting scream fest with a nice powerful riff. Nothing more can be said except that it lasts like this for the remainder of the song.

-"Verwüstung"- This is by far my favorite song on the disc. Brutal and speedy for the entire track except for a certain melodic part half way through the song. Excellent.

-"Ein Hauch Von Kälte"-This starts again like the two above mentioned tracks, fast as fuck with a few screams placed over the main riff. The song further goes into a mid paced strangely riffed piece with some well placed background howling. It finally ends up with a classic Abigor-style riff with some unbelievably fast drumming. Amazing.

-"Hyperwelt"-Aaaaa something different. Starts a lot slower with a nice melodic riff and continues like that for a few minutes. This song is actually quite doomy for the most part. About half way through the track, all other instruments die and a sombre sounding guitar riff leads the song into a conclusion similar to the intro-yet with distortion.

-"Tu es diaboli juna"- Sort of a combination between "Hyperwelt" and the first three songs. Although very fast and filled with tons of vile screaming, this song is quite melodic and at times even doomy sounding. Well-done.

-"Ubique Daemon"-The final, and by far the slowest song. A simple grinding riffed mixed with a high-pitched classic sounding Abigor-esque riff. The song becomes technically quite epic as the instruments seem to go off into all directions. The track speeds up towards the end with a crunch sounding riff, moves into a nice blast-beat, and ends with some confused instrumentation/screaming.

Overall this is a short, yet sweet album. Abigor have nicely experimented on this album, adding melody, brutality, and some interesting (almost confusing) riffs. Well done and most obviously recommended.
